How to Potty Train 4 Month puppy?

Crate training helps, so does a very consistent schedule. I haven't had a puppy in a very long time (I just adopt adults now) but my newest dog still has inconsistent bathroom habits even though she's a 2 yr old. So she is always restricted when we're not around to watch her (we have a doggie bedroom in lieu of a crate) and we have a schedule for food, water and bathroom breaks. I've had her 6 months and only now has she started to earn a little freedom.

As everyone says, get a crate. That is your first step. Secondly, wherever she pees and poops in the house the scent is there. Because the scent is there she thinks that is a fine place to go. You need to clean the area so no smell remains. You can find some cleaners made for this purpose at any pet supply or even WalMart. Get one with enzymes. The enzymes will break down the waste so no trace remains. I am told white vinegar works well in a pinch. Do not use ammonia. Urine contains ammonia so cleaning with it would be self defeating.

One thing I didn't mention is that if you have a soiled training pad or maybe even take some stool she has deposited in the house outside to where you want her to go. If the scent is there, that might give her the idea.
