how to prepare cucumber for chickens?

I have noticed their egg production is down since I started giving them cucumbers every day. Less calcium from feed I suppose.

If you are feeding treats/scraps, this will lower the protein that your chickens are consuming to produce eggs. What protein % are you feeding your chickens? If it's 16% and they are getting to many treats, this could effect the amount of eggs you are getting. Calcium is for the egg shell.

Mine lay more eggs when I give them cucumbers. Go figure! I puree some twice a week and give it them that way. I used to slice them lengthwise, but they're too lazy to eat the whole thing that way. They'd just peck out the middle and leave the rest to rot. Goofy girls! Different strokes, I guess.

I'm also buried under cucumbers but my little brats won't touch the stuff. They won't eat bananas, they hate scratch...but if you're walking past the pen and don't pull up some handfuls of grass to feed them through the wire, they get irate. LOL I have a weird bunch of chickens!

today i was going to feed my chickens cucumber but i didnt know how or if it needs to be cut? i decided to just cut them into the tiniest pieces i could until i could get some feedback. i dont want them to choke or not be able to eat it
Here’s how I do mine. No waste and stays clean.

This beats the plastic Folgers can and S hook watering system my neighbor helped me "install." *giggle* There is a "what have you repurposed" thread somewhere that was a blast to read through.

My girls are not laying yet, soon- 17 weeks. I have been giving more veggie/ fruits than normal but only as a cool treat in heat of the day. I make popcycles in small Rubbermaid containers with corn or small chopped veggies, frozen watermelon ect. Right now I am worried about the heat effects. Trying to cool them down. I also am adding some high protein game bird starter to their regular starter feed to increase the protein. I do also wet down their run and refill cool water.

I used to worry about how big to cut fruit etc until I saw them swallow huge beetles and pieces of frogs they ripped apart!
I think I saw someone say that recently about lizards LOL I had been doing the short-order cook thing and carefully chopping everything on my carving board til literally 2 days ago :D

I run cabbage through the food processor every morning and mix it into their crumble for my Serama. I used to also add a half a cucumber. You have to be careful not to turn the cucumber to slush but you can't mess up the cabbage.
