How to prevent lice, ticks, mites, and such from my chickens ???

Can dust the coop with food grade diatomaceous earth. It should be FOOD GRADE, not the stuff sold for pools or as insect killer, which is a respiratory irritant because it is in the crystalline form. You need the amorphous form, which is sold as food grade. Most likely have to order it online, or find a distributor that is close to you.

All you need to do is occasionally visually inspect your chickens for external parasites, especially around the vent area. Go out to their house at night with a flashlight and look at the roosts for any crawling bugs. If you see any on your chickens or in their house, I recommend using sevin dust. Here's a link to read from the avian experts at OSU:

In addition to sevin, you can use permethrin or pyrethrin. Thoroughly spray the coop/pen, getting into all crevases, let it dry and then you can put the birds back in. And dust the bedding and nest box with powder form. Ivermectin can be safely used (my vet recommends it), although it is not approved for poultry.
