I from Mass. There is no such thing as an R at the end of a word. Lakenvelder is lakenveldahh.![]()
I'm a native of Texas and was amused when spending a weekend on Cape Cod that anyone could make fun of MY accent and talk like that themselves hehe. The weatherman on local TV is the one that said "Marthers Vin Yahd."
Sometimes that yankee accent can lead to good things. My brother and I were traveling to Florida and had a lay-over in Atlanta and we visited an establishment in the airport. These two lovely Georgia peaches were just fawning over us and our accent. And buying us adult beverages. Too bad we ran out of time. No matter were you go in this country, there are always regional accents. Like in NY City you don't order a "hot dog" it is a "hort dorg".
But in full disclosure I should add that my father was born and raised in northern Florida. My parents and brothers live there for a while as did I but was still inside my mother. So I am a southerner of sorts.
But southern accents in general suffer from the movies and such portraying southerners as ignorant clowns.

I was wondering about marans. Here in hillbilly land where I grew up some say MARR-in with a hard r, and I have said ma-RAN. I realize it is French and the s is silent, but which is correct?
