Great!! How many of your's did that? All of them? There is an older chick in the box with them who seems fine. And the 2 I put outside last week seem fine as well as the others with the flock...

I emailed the lady we got them from. I think she is up to something... She never would let us go in her backyard and see the adults when we went to her house...Theres more funky stuff too...She better email me back because all of my other chickens were fine and NONE better get sick or idk what I am going to do.

Hmm that lady sounds strange.. something might be up. Were they vaccinated for Mareks? 1 of the 2 chicks with poopy butt died. The one that lived didnt have it as bad though. In fact.. the one that lived is the one that is now dieing.

Totally agree. The more time you are wasting worrying, the more time your bird is suffering. Just do it and get it over with, or find someone else that will do it.

All the ones we got from the feed stores that were from hatcheries were just sold as is an nobody ever said anything about vaccination...

BTW I dont know what kind of gun he used but he has a bb/pellet gun, a 22 and a shotgun. Obviously it wasnt the shot gun LOL but whatever he used killed it and didnt make a big mess. We just picked it up and placed it in a box til we get home to do something with it... My boyfriend used to hunt quail and so he knew what would kill and not mutilate it...

I did the same thing. None of mine are vaccinated either. The ones with poopy butt were from the feed store as well. I wont be buying from there again for many reasons. From now on I want to stick with good breeders but there really aren't any silkie breeders around here

Wow.. what a creepy lady. Theres a silky hatchery down east in like Pennsylvania or somewhere that Ive heard good things about. I forgot the name though so I'll have to search for it. They'll vaccinate the chicks and ship them to you but you have to order like 15 at a time. Thats my big hang up.. I get one chick at a time and raise it in the house. They stay with me all the time so that they bond to me instead of the other chickens. When you do that they're more like dogs.. Ive only done it with one chicken and I want to do it again. He follows me around everywhere and hes really sweet.

I think that is my problem. I want the chickens and ducks to love me and want to be around me but they seem to hate me and hate me approaching them. Probably because I always had multible at once. Depending on if these live or not I may just do what you do... Thanks for the idea... I know there is a hatchery or 2 that dont have such a high minimum order. I think for bantums on the one I heard about you can order as little as 5... Myabe they vaccinate as an optional thing? I can look and try to find it again i read it on here...

Yeah when you raise them together they're not as friendly for sure. I did that with the ones I got form the feed store. Theres only 1 left now but she hates being picked up and runs away when you approach her. Whereas I carry peanut all over the place and he'll sit in the coop and crow till I come and see him lol. Ive never seen a chicken use crowing in that way.

If you do decide to raise them one at a time, chickendiapers.com is where you can get the diapers. However, chicks need a mommy or a friend so only do this if you have a ton of time to spend with it or they'll cry constantly. I had to always be with Peanut. Whenever I put him down he'd start crying. That lasted about 3 weeks I think. He used to always sleep inside my coat. I think it was a comfort thing cuz chicks sleep underneath their mom. Even now he still tries to get under my coat or shirt haha.

This is him:
