How to "put down" hen

I am so sorry for your loss! Deciding to put down a chicken haunts me for days afterwards. When one dies naturally, it is still so hard. My husband uses a .22 when we have to cull. I hate telling him to put one down and he hates doing it. Afterwards, I am hypervigilant looking for signs of illness in the rest of my birds. I usually question if I want to continue having chickens for awhile. However, I get so much joy from my birds, that I bounce back after a time. Hange in there! Your silkie was beautiful and she is at peace now.

What a beautiful girl. I'm so sorry for your loss.

First of all, I am so sorry about you poor little girl!

One night a raccoon snuck into our coop and pulled the leg off our girl Cubert. The way the man of the house did it was picking her up and wringing her neck quickly and painlessly. She died instantly. I hope that your poor girl is out of her misery and goes to chicken heaven soon.

God in his goodness gave us chickens and it is his will to take them away.
R.I.P. Elizabeth,Jane,Peck,Kitty,Andromeda,Cubert,Lydia and especially you Starbuck.
