How to Remove RED Permanent Marker From Chicks Head

My friend got some and I have to be honest... there was NO problem. Other chicks were marked in different colors to identify a mixed order going to multiple people. There is also IMO, no such thing as truly permanent marker... they ALL seem to fade. But I if it's bothering you and causing pecking then I think adding another color, was a GREAT suggestion! Love to see the brain storming and coming together if this community. :thumbsup

Combs are red... I think chicks pick at things that look out of the normal... like freckles and such and don't think it truly has to do with being red...

The obsession and excitement that comes when they discover blood... has to do with the richness of the blood and NOT the color IMO. Putting the same mark on others *could* help, so all look the same. :p

ETA: My friends' chicks also came from Ideal... which I am happy with their quality COMPARED to other hatcheries.

I have red heat lights in all of the totes, (aimed to 1 corner) but I noticed as soon as he's in daylight he gets pecked.
I love the idea of changing the color ... and kinda feel silly that I didn't think of that solution myself... lol
Thanks so much everyone! Love this site!!
Don't feel silly.
When we all put our heads together, there isn't much we can't figure out. Each of us has some knowledge about certain things, but when we work together here at BYC, we are The Great Library of Chicken Knowledge!

I didn't think about painting them all red! Now that's thinking outside the coop! :lau:gig:yesss:

Yes, we are very pleased with the quality of the chicks we received from Ideal, even though they shorted us an Easter Egger, that was going to my step-daughter, & they gave us 2 roosters instead of only 1 rooster). Btw, Ideal did reimburse us for their 2 mistakes.
I would order from them again because the chicks that came from them are much calmer. IMO, the chicks that get shipped to stores are traumatized by the environment of the store & so many people grabbing chicks. I have 7 different breeds & the 5 breeds that came from the stores are still scared, and freak out every time I put my hand in their brooder. But the 2 breeds in the brooder that we got from Ideal could care less about my hand, in fact they greet me & even hop up into my hand, not scared.
I hold all of the chicks quite often, but the 5 breeds from the store act like I'm killing them. I talk calmly & make sure my actions are slow, trying to win their trust, but it doesn't seem to help. I'm hoping it will get better once they can choose to come up to me on their own.
