Hi! I have two toms that I will have after fair this year for 4h and I want to give them to people who will not slaughter them and either have them as pets or breeding turkeys. They are healthy, get along pretty well and are bronze breasted. Does anyone know where the best place to look for people like that is? I am located in NE Ohio.

You're best bet is to probably keep them yourself if that's what you want for them. Unfortunately, if they're meat turkeys (Broad Breasted Bronze) they most likely won't live very long and may end up breaking legs or not being able to get around. They won't be good breeders, either, because they can't breed naturally (so I understand).

That said, we have a local county park that keeps some farm animals, and they have a few huge meat turkeys. Maybe you could try something like that?

Broad breasted turkeys do not live long. Tom's especially are difficult to keep alive and healthy. They are prone to many health problems, including heart attacks and joint problems. That said, they do make delightful pets for their brief lives. My advice (said after keeping numerous industrial meat turkeys) is too enjoy them while they last and remain healthy, then make their "one bad day" as brief and painless as possible after you've given them as long and as happy a life as you possibly could. Even with excellent care, not all meat birds will last long.
