How to set this trap?

Got her! (Maybe him…:idunno)
Not a happy kitty!

She’s staying in the trap in the shed overnight.

Now what? I’m either taking her to the shelter or getting her fixed myself, but I really cannot keep another cat.

Thank you all very much for the help setting the trap! Incidentally, when I went out there I did faintly smell a skunk 🦨.
Good job!! Best wishes with what ever you decide however at least she is no longer a stray. 😊

Updated picture - how old do you think it is?

Congrats! You can try taking her to a shelter. Some shelters have these barn cat programs that they might put her in for being feral. With those, she'll be fixed and sent to a farm to catch mice for a lower adoption price. If you're interested in keeping her yourself, there are programs (Catch, Neuter, Release) that might fix her for free and return her to you so you can keep her as a barn cat yourself.

Warning: Do not try opening the trap for anything (unless in a place where if she escapes you won't lose her) or put your fingers in the cage (like I accidentally did once).

Our shelter is terrible. We found another stray cat two years ago and tried taking her there, and she bit the worker while they were trying to reach in and pull her out of the crate so they said they were taking her back and putting her down. We immediately walked out the door with her and…

Here she is on a trip to DC.

I did get Francine safely out of the trap and into a dog crate. She slid out as easy as pie!

I’ve contacted some rescues but one can’t take her and another ghosted me. I have a feeling we will end up with a third cat…
