How to Set Up Momma Hen and Chick for Success - Need a Plan!

What is that feed looks like pellets?
Yes, I tried to break it up as small as I could with my fingers - will get chick crumbles ASAP tomorrow. Didn’t think the baby would hatch so soon so I didn’t have chick feed on hand.

Although I guess technically they don’t have to eat for the first 48 hours, it’s more in there for the mom unless I should remove it. Very new to this and open to any suggestions!

You could wet a small amount of those pellets making them soft or into a mash if you are worried about food before tomorrow.
I will do this just in case, for my own sake of mind.

The baby is kind of curled up, seems to want her head under her wing, like in embryo development pictures. Is this normal? I’m sure she just hatched a few hours ago so she’s weak, but I don’t know how soon they can begin walking. I wish she would stretch out so I wouldn’t worry. 😅 Seems too early to be wry neck.

Couldn't really tell you anything on that without actually seeing chick but it does take them a good while to get going sometimes like you said they are very tired right after hatching and can take a while to get their feet under them. Hope everything goes well.

The chick will be exhausted for the time following hatch. But it will be up and about in several hours. The mother will try to feed it. The pellets will not work. New chicks don't even try to eat something so large. Starter chick feed is milled fine, and that's what you want for both hen and chicks. Glad you thought to put rocks in the water. Does the hen have grit?
