I just found your thread here. How's the oyster shell helping these days?
I had some new chicks added to the flock this year and some of them started eating the eggs. I don't know who is doing it or how many. They aren't really eating the shell but the yolk and white. I think partly because they are young and curious and partly because the summer has been so hot in Texas. I think also it's that I have one hen that lays soft shelled eggs, I think she's 4-5 years old.
I stopped it for a while by getting the eggs out early and adding a ceramic egg. However, today my soft shell egg was broken and eaten again. (not the shell)
I don't know. I suspect if we can get the eggs out earlier that's the easiest solution. What do you think?
