Hi everybody,
I have a white ringneck dove since last October. I bought it as a young bird. I still don't know its sex(any advices how to identify it? It doesn't coo so often and doesn't lay eggs.) It's tamed, I taught it to fly from hand to hand, but I want to teach it to fly free. I want to open a window and know it'll go back or take it for a walk without any harness or anything like that. Is it possible? How can I train my bird?

:welcome If you free fly it in the outdoors, it will most likely not return and will be eaten by a raptor. A white/tame bird would be especially vulnerable to predation.

These birds are not suitable to free fly. They lack the homing instincts of homing pigeons. They are also so domesticated and far removed from their wild relatives, that they have lost their instincts to know and escape dangers.

It would just placidly sit on the floor while a cat walked up to it and ate it. Or walk out under a moving car.

They get all the flying exercise they need if you supervise and let them fly in your home (watch out for dangers and open windows). You can also make a aviary outside when the weather is good, or take their cage outside so they can sunbath or take a shower in light rain. But, always be there to watch over them in case cats or hawks come for a snack.
