How to tell a 4yo that you ate their drake...

I know what was said, and it's a touchy subject, but my moral compass won't let me lie to so easily, 'cause it's a very serious issue with me.

All of you, ask yourselves this question... "do you lie?" I'd like to sat that I have never lied, but to say that would be a lie, lol, but in a case like this I think it's the responsibility of the parents to deal with the feelings of *their* four year old. Besides, shouldn't the parents be with said four year old when visiting the ducks? Please don't tell m that the four year old is allowed to roam the neighborhood unsupervised.

Kathy - are you seriously saying that you would rather maintain some morally superior high ground, refusing to tell a little white lie to spare a kids feelings and tell the kid you ate her duck and let the parents deal with the crying?

I would tell the parents that I was going to eat the duck, period. Of course they would have the option of taking him back. Then if they let their child come over, and the child asked about the duck I would say "ask your parents". Again what sort of parent lets their 4 year old child visit neighbors unsupervised?

I made up my mind already... Thanks to all you helpful members of this thread who didn't try to stir up issues. I really appreciate all y'all who weren't stirring stuff up :D

If a vegan/vegetarian family gave me their 4 year old daughter's pet duck and I butchered it and ate it. I would be nice and tell them if they asked, that tbeir pet found a nice home on a farm, or flew away, or whatever. I woudn't feel any compulsion to say something upsetting to anyone.
Brutally honest people, besides being cruel and insensitive, and lacking social grace, can sometimes get hurt. Walking up to a stranger and telling them they have an ugly mug, just because of a need to be honest, and you have a compulsion not to let them assume a lie, like they are pretty or beautiful or something, good way to get hurt being so brutally honest! They might get physically violent! :(

Maybe tell the previous owners (the parents) about your plan first so they can take him back if they want?

Ugh why did they get Donald in the first place :/
