**How to tell if a hen is broody...**

LOL! Mine are 6 weeks old today! I hadn't taken photos in a few days, so I went outside for a photo shoot. It's hard to get them all in one shot that's not just chicken butt pictures! LOL

I am jealous of those eyes.... i love the color!

I have a question about my chicken now too! Haha. When I go to pet/pick her up she sorta perks up and stands straight up. And then she will make a cooing noise like: co co co. Like repeatedly. Do you think she is broody??

I have a RIR that's sitting a clutch of twelve eggs and she refuses to move and when I tried to get her eggs she puffed up and pecked me

I suppose you could watch her a could of days. I had one hen recently who acted broody for just a few days and another has been in the nest box every time I check on them for a few weeks despite the fact that I keep taking the eggs away. I take her off her nest to make sure that she eats and drinks. I place her on the ground and she sits there for a moment all fluffy puffy. then she gets her food and water, and within 10 minutes she is usually back on her nest.

That happens to two of my chickens too. They will try to peck me if I pick them up and will coo softly. Are they broody?

Pecking and puffing in response to being picked up sounds like typical broody behavior. It is the hen saying "let me stay in the nest box."
