I've not seen an EE that has actual tufts like the Aracaunas. Mine that have muffs/beards have usually had them from the start. Sounds like your girl just might be growing the feathers that go over the upper earlobe? Can you get a pic?

Are you wondering the gender? If so this is definitely a girl. Boy EEs don't have this particular pattern, it's a very common, feminine pattern. Female EEs tend to have very smooth shading and blended colors while males are more "patchy" looking and will typically have dark red brown coloring in their shoulders.![]()
