Sometimes, a juvenile rooster will begin to attack and fight an older rooster for the lead spot. Some birds can deal with that, some cannot, and it can be rather horrible to have an honored rooster, shamed and beaten up.

I agree. It was heart broken to see him not acting like himself. Wasn't getting food, wasn't out with his ladies, was staying in the coop in a nesting box all day and night, acting really depressed.
