Glen, Mississippi. 40+ chicken years
Been a terrible year here with the heart attack and my wife's health problems, business going from slow to dead, just one thing after another. Then at around 3:00 am I was jarred awake to a horrible storm. Got half dressed as fast a possible, grabbed the kids and got them in the hall, then ran out to the porch just as a tornado passed overhead lifting the porch about 2' in the air.
Trees are down everywhere, our large outdoor brooder which weighs about 300+ pounds was thrown about 50' away and upside down in a stream of flood water.... lost I think over 35 of our Orloff chicks plus the other odd-balls in there, can't remember what all was in it and one dead drowned chick looks pretty much like another. The power was out for a few hours and the incubator has eggs from 3 days old all the way up to day 18 lockdown (about 200 eggs total) just hopeing they didn't get too chilled. I saw pieces of roofing tin wrapped around some of the pecan trees, waiting for daylight now to see if it's from one of our barns or from a neighbors house... My wife's truck was sitting SIDEWAYS in the driveway! Just picked it up and sat it down a few feet away turned half around, didn't see any damage to it in the rain with a flashlight anyways. I hear a few roosters crowing, so know at least some of our stock made it through.

At least we are all alive and safe. Dread daylight though....

Hope everyone else from BYC in the area are all safe and sound!

I am so glad that you and your family are safe sending prayers for you. I hate tornado's I live in tornado alley Kansas so I know what its like. Please be careful there will be a lot of debris so what for boards with nails and other stuff. I hope most of your livestock made it sorry about your chicks and praying that the eggs in your incubator can hatch.

Oh my, you have had some trials in your lives lately and this hopefully puts an end to it all. I am so sorry about the losses and the damage and at the same time so happy to hear that you and your family are safe. I hope your County has the means to help you get things back together.

I wish you all the best and with all that you have gone through you are one tough farmer!

I hate to hear that, MFB. Very glad you and your family came through okay, hope the damage doesn't look as bad by the light of day.
