My rooster was attacked by another rooster, no injuries on the body but his head is in bad shape. Eyes are fine, however his comb is torn up and bleeding and missing most of his feathers on his head/neck area.

I took him to an emergency vet immediately, however their exotic specialist was off duty and we were sent home with antibiotics and pain medication.

He is currently resting inside on warm towels. Very lethargic; he can sit up (somewhat)? but his head will droop and his eyes won't open. I haven't seen much improvement since he was attacked approx. 6 hours ago. I've been syringe-feeding him water and medication.

I don't know what to do.

You'll want to offer sugar water with nutri-drench. Sugar water will increase his blood sugar, and help him recover. If he wont drink, try to dip his beak, then syringe some sugar water into his mouth if that fails. To syringe, take a long thin syringe and place it to the back, right side of his mouth/throat. Pinch his upper/lower beak to open his mouth.
Keeping him in a clam quiet environment will also help. Good luck!
Keep us updated.

Besides a calm and quiet environment, keep him warm if he seems chilled. Offer fluids often, and from a lid, spoon, or small cup to drink on his own. Watery chicken feed and scrambled egg with a little water will help when he is able to take food. Chlorhexidene 2% is very good to clean wounds, and then use plain antibiotic ointment twice a day on wounds. Hopefully, he will recover with rest.

Thanks for the help. I gave him some sugar water.

He hasn't improved much yet but I will hold out hope

Rooster ended up dying this morning. He was on pain medication so I'm hoping he didn't suffer too much.

The death of a pet is heartbreaking. Thank you for the responses and I will do my best to prevent this from happening in the future

I'm so sorry, my heart goes out to you. You did everything you possibly could to get him to recover. He knew he was loved. Theres not a lot of people out there that would be willing to take him to a vet to get him cared for. Not everyone is able, or wants to take care that far. You did, you made that difference for him.
It never gets easier loosing them, but day by day it will get better. You'll learn, sometimes the hard way. The rest of your flock will benefit from this experience, as you will be able to protect them all better in the future.
RIP Mr. Rooster, I'm sorry for your loss.
