How/where do you store your feed?

Up here, we have bears and I don't want to give them any reason to break into my coop or shed, so we keep the feed in the house.

I'm in South Georgia. I keep mine in a rubbermaid garbage can with tight fitting lid right next to the hen house. It's in the shade and I've never had a problem with critters getting into it.... though it's only been out there for a month!

For now mine is in the garage. And just a tip on the rubbermaid tubs... we had a squirrel chew thru the lid of one of the heavy duty ones to get to the bird seed on the inside. I don't know how he could even smell it, but he did! As I recall the squirrel was trapped in the garage over the weekend so he had plenty of time, but a raccoon would be a lot smarter and stronger than a squirrel. For that reason my vote goes to metal cans.

We keep ours in a rubbermaid garbage can with a snap lid inside the coop, seems to be working just fine.

We also have Bears and other critters, so the feed gets locked in the storage building . I use Rubbermaid storge cans too.

I've had mice break into those nice Rubbermaid bins....ugh. You can get medium-sized metal trashcan-bins from Behren's with locking metal handles. I don't think anything will get into those! 2 would store a 50-lb bag just fine.

We put our feed just outside the coop in black rubber garbage cans that have "critter-proof" lids meaning they have metal latches that I defy any raccoon to get open. That being said...we recently found out that rats can and will chew through that rather thick rubber to get at the scratch inside - they don't seem to care much about the feed, but they really want the grains. My feed store carries galvanized steel garbage cans with locking lids that I've been eyeing up every time I'm there, but the price tag attached to them is outrageous. I do believe in the end I will probably go for the steel ones since I need to replace two of the lids and they don't sell just the lids (go figure that one out!) and to be sure if I was to do it over, I would have grabbed them before the hike in oil costs which seems to have sent the price of everything through the roof.

I use the stackable 30-50 gallon rectangular containers (Rubbermaid-type) with handles that come up to snap over the top & keep it in place. Then we stack all these inside a large deck box sitting just outside our run under a shelter. No problems!
