sorry,,, you know how people are bout birds
they had to look at each chick 38 times ( i have round 300 right now) before deciding to pick the first 1 they looked at
its cool to have a roo that you can pick up,, but,, theres higher priorities then "love" when talking roo.
the pecking order is always, forever, and will never change, be #1.
if you treat a roo the way they are suppose to be treated,, you will never had to much problem with them. when you walk into the run, the roo should go away, or at least NOT go toward you. when you walk through, if he is in the way, you should walk straight, and when you make it to him, if he isnt out of the way,, give him a little soccer ball kick ( with side of foot),, and ALWAYS make him get out of the way. when your walking through the run, and he mounts a hen, walk over and kick him off her.if you have kids, and they come in the run, he better be running as far from them as he can,, if he doesnt,, chase his butt down, grab him by the feet, walk over to the coop ( dont hang too long, as this starts to make it hard to breathe after a couple minutes), and throw him in there.
i know all this sounds mean,, but it isnt,, it actually is kinda nice for the roo to be treated like a roo, by another roo ( you).
i love,, and i mean LOVE my roo's,, and i do this every time i interact with them. ( cept the kid thing,,k they all know,, lol), and you would think that they would HATE me...... every night,,, EVERY night, my roos herd the girls in front of the door, i walk into each pen,, the roo's walk by me, walk to a back corner, i tell the girls to go to bed, they all go in,, and there left is a roo in a corner,,ALL,, ALL ( cept 1 out of the 15) do this,,, why????, cause after the girls are in, i walk over, pick up the roo,, scratch his head and neck, and thank him for taking care of things today, for protecting them girls. and this is a 10 minute process for each roo
now if i go to pick a roo up in the afternoon,,, its a WAY different story !!,, they know there is no reason for me to touch them in the day, unless there is something wrong with them, and there gonna get "attention" lol.
my big leghorn was my first bird, to everyone looking in,, he's the meanest thing they've ever seen,, my wife cant go in his yard, my friends, not even the big ole cowboys that ride bulls will go in there,,,, and he is praised for that from me,,, he's doing what he is suppose to,, he's not suppose to let anything, anyone at all near my birds,, just me,, and i let him get away with more then any other bird,, i respect him, and he respects me,,, but,, he's only allowed a LITTLE rope,,lol,, once in a while he'll try to see if im still bigger,, but only by not moving out of my way, or not making a step back when i make 1 towards him,,, and then he's either picked up and thrown in the coop, or soccer balled,,,, but he's also the 1 that will sit on my lap inside and watch t.v. ,, will fall asleep with me scratchin his head.
sorry to drag on,, but its hard to explain how you can show love, but still always be alpha lol.
