Hi all:
My name is Alice. I am an RN and exercise physiologist working in a small university. I am married to a wildlife biologist (Steve). and have a 10 yo daughter (Bray). We live on a farm but I'm a city girl (we have kind of a Green Acres thing going on). We have 3 cats and a dog, and have now had our 6 chickens for about 4 months. We have a nice coop and run, but wanted to free range them. We worried about free ranging them because of the other pets, but we are happy that all is well! The dog likes them and the cats ignore them. I can't wait until we get eggs! It was a lot of work at first -- predator proofing the run and all that, but lots of fun now.

Hi Alice!

Welcome! Like you, we're blessed in that all of our animals happily coexist - it makes "chickening" so much more enjoyable. Glad you joined!

Hi and :welcome

That's great that your other pets get along with your chickens.
The eggs are very good from our free range hens. :celebrate (They should be getting ready to lay at 4 months old)

And I hope you find all the info that you need here. :D

Thanks! I am finding out so much I didn't know from this site. My husband just built them a beautiful nesting box with room to expand -- 8 boxes. But we will have to get another coop before we add more to the flock; we call them the Angry Birds.
One thing I am wondering -- we read the treat list and didn't see anything about tomatoes, but they love them. Are they OK?
