In the Brooder

I very recently got 4 chicks, I'm expecting to get more but wanted to make sure I could handle it first. (I have MS and fatigue is a killer). I'm learning that this is probably the most awesome thing I've done since my diagnosis and will likely end up with ducklings as well! Maybe rabbits some day, even! I just love having the critters in my life. It gives me purpose since becoming disabled.

SO, what are some things you wish you knew as a first time chick or duckling parent? What are your favorite tools in your belt? What is the major differences between chicks and ducklings? Lastly, how do you keep their names straight because I can't for the life of me remember which ones which. 🤣

Welcome to BYC! 🙂
Ducklings in a brooder will need something like shelf liner for their feet. Not shavings.
They will need a waterer that allows them to dip their bills all the way under. The ducklings will require an all flock starter or duck starter feed.
Since you have chicks, I recommend switching to a non-medicated all flock starter feed.
That way everyone is eating the same feed and you aren’t having to keep up with separate bags.

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

Wow, that is so neat you've found keeping chicks/pets will help you. ❤️

I guess the tip I'd share is to find your own way of doing things and don't let anyone tell you you're wrong. We all may have different ways about doing things, but in the end, they are chickens that lay eggs, and are fun to watch and interact with.

P.S. Scrambled eggs is a very healthy treat and they'll pummel you for them. :)

We're glad you're here!
