Thanks all for the warm welcome! I ordered my chicks today! Very excited! I ordered 2 Aracaunas, 4 Barred Rocks and 4 Black Star. I would very much like to raise them completely antibiotic free, anyone have any advice along those lines?

I, too, live in the Sherman area - behind GCC. I've never used antibiotics or wormers and have never had a problem. I am an organic gardener and have a lil over 2 acres and my chickens get to free range on some weekends and occasionally during the week if I get home from work at a decent hour! Some might say I'm taking a chance not inoculating them, but it's a chance I prefer to take. The only problem I've had with them is bobcats - lots around this area I live in.

I do sprinkle diatomaceous earth in the coop litter and around the outdoor runs from time to time. I usually add apple cider vinegar with the mother into their drinking water, but during the winter months (and especially with this cold winter we've had this year) I tend to be a bit lax.

Where did you order your chicks from? The feed stores around here don't have any of the breeds I'm looking for and Ideal isn't shipping til MAY!!! Should have placed an order last Fall...
