Yes I believe that. I pray my grand parents dont even catch a cold. But we will never know the real number of deaths I believe it's much higher than there telling us. But a cold will kill the older people just the same. I just think if they had a name for a cold then it would be the same way with everyone freaking out. I'm just saying. It gets a name and people go nuts. No name and it's not important. Our government sux and always will. We have had shots for our animals for how long now for this coronavirus, mandatory shots. Now how didn't they ever thing it could make it to humans. Come on , mad cow , and many other things we can catch from animals. And they thought to save the animals and it never popped into there minds this could spread also. Just something to think about. It's not gonna stop my day or bother my life style.
My understanding, and please correct me if I'm wrong here, but the "typical" strains of flu, colds, etc begin as an upper respiratory condition, which most are fought off in a couple days and life goes on. The main complication that causes death is from secondary infections, pneumonia, whatever that set in the lower respiratory system. Whereas this virus skips the foreplay and goes straight for the lower system.
Many people are carriers but are asymptomatic and never know they have it but are spreading it to the vulnerable.

I agree that i am not rearranging my life for it, although it has been rearranged for me with all the closings and cancellations. But it deserves attention nonetheless.

The problem with statistics is that they can be construed to indicate things that aren't necessarily true. For example: 12,000 cases and 800 deaths. That's 1out of every 15 people who get the virus die. Right? Eh, technically, but if 600 of those deaths were in people say 65 an older, suddenly 64 and younger are feeling a little more relieved while 65 and older are shaking in their boots.

Thats the problem with the media coverage. They throw all these percentages and numbers at the public that mean nothing without the clarity of what they actually represent.

They have decided to close the schools in my county for the next full month. I'm honestly not quite sure what to make of all this, but needless to say, my grandkids are happy about it. šŸ˜
I bet they are. I have no grandkids as of yet. But my 20 yr old thinks she is pregnant.. not sure how to act on that. I never signed up to be a grandparent just a mom. Lol I'm 13 hundred miles away from them. My son would have been 24 this yr but passed 6 yrs ago the 28th. I stay at home my husband works and is a home builder. So he works with many people and lots of lumber yards. His boss caught the flu and was made to stay away. I have no immune system I usually have ammonia last 3 times a yr until I moved from ohio to texas 5 yrs ago. I've had maybe a hand full of colds. But that's it. I still go to store when needed. I dont shy away or wear masks. I've had cancer at 19 and beat it. I had a rare case of strep when I was a child. The steep was a form that kills most people who catch it I was the first child on record with it and they didn't know what to do. My mom got all crazy on me , gifts came from family members. And I dont remember really feeling bad. And this step only the elderly catch. I'm not gonna let some cold or flu or this new flew terrorize me in any way. It's kinda funny but not watching people freak out. But I'm also sitting back and seeing people with money buying everything. Well some are poor and there kids dont eat like others to begin with and now the poor can't even make it to the store like alot of people with cars and jobs and homes. What do poor people do now that the stores are empty. I'll tell ya if anyone needs something and is willing to pay for the shipment cost and the cost of the item I will try to track it down here or ohio where my family is and I'll buy it and mail it to them. There are money apps I can use . I would not screw an anyone. I'd probably cover some of the charge and my time and gas . In texas its texas time when u go anywhere. If its 15 miles down the rd you better leave one hr and half early cause it takes that long. It's a 40 min ride to walmart me and it's less that 10 miles.

Honestly, I know how your grand kids feel! I am so relieved I don't have to go into in-class sessions next week early in the morning.

I have a dentist appointment tomorrow, I'm wondering if it will be canceled, I need 2 root canals this month (because I was lazy about flossing) both are infected to some degree, so I'm wondering about that.

Call the dental office. Mine sent out an email, business as usual, but please reschedule if you show any signs of flu, cold, or possible covid or have been around anyone testing positive.

I just went to a doctor's appt earlier this week (could've easily canceled as it was for a minor issue) and really seemed like business as usual, not many cancellations.

I dont have money by far . Its check to check . Checks are good but no banks or anything. No house just our trucks that were older and used. My rent is high. So I guess I'm saying I have been there I have been hungry to feed my kids. Hell me and my kids have been hungry, Bill's off at times. And now what these people could come up with to get some things they need can't get them now cause they had to wait or pay for a ride and some are grabbing 4 to 5 jumbo pks of toilet paper. Or the rich that can use a food processor so another baby can eat tonite. But no they load there cart with it all. Some people have no hearts when it comes to this and it breaks my heart.i wouldn't want my child hungry. But out of all the people in the stores today how many are at home eating dinner and thinking about someone elses hungry baby cause they bought it all at the stores. I see the national guards coming in more that now. They need to so some people and kids dont starve. But I guess there only human.but not someone I'd associate with.

Other than no T P we are good. We always keep a decent pantry. We have ingredients to make our own bread and plenty of peanut butter and jelly if it comes down to that. Pretty good on some cleaning supplies and Clorox wipes ect because I always keep them unfortunately it was time for me to buy toilet paper and now it's all gone. There's always those unwanted flyers we get in the mail LOL. We have 6 cases in our county but way too many panicked people.

In my city libraries and certain community groups are giving out free lunches to school kids who are relying on school lunches for their meals. They're having special facilities cleaned specially for preparing the lunches in extra sanitary small groups put together before they start distribution. So I think at least school kids will get their meals the next few weeks but it's still rough.

What's extra infuriating is all of this that's happening, the community organizing, the telecommuting, the online courses... I know a lot of people who have been desperate for these changes in their day to day lives, often due to disability needs, but have been denied them many times. Suddenly though exceptions can be made and people can move courses online, and of course they can accommodate sick people and keep everyone working at home, and no those meetings DON'T need to be in person actually, etc. etc.
Or folks who are suddenly getting rent deferments because a lot of low income people are dramatically effected by their workplaces shutting down feel very angry because when they were asking for deferments so they could, say, feed their children or pay to fix their car it was not OK.

It's kind of frustrating to suddenly see all of the very human-centric and equitable things we could have been doing all along for humans struggling with human needs but were told were impossible, now they're being done for the good of humanity without a bat of the eye because of a virus. I guess those things aren't so impossible after all, just nobody ever wanted/was forced to do them.

But it's good to see the solidarity, the willingness to be good to eachother and do your part, and the desire to improve. I just hope we all remember that if they can suddenly stop income-based evictions and utility shut-offs, allow short notice emergency unemployment benefits, force paid sick leave, allow telecommuting and put online courses together for people now, we can still do those things for vulnerable people next month too, or whenever they need it.

Ya but those flyers are not absorbent at all. And the ink just says I'd probably be on fire down there or a good brewing infection. Lol I have many rags and old clothes I did find 2 pks of wipes at target but there was only about 7 left. I wasn't gonna take them all. I will use my shower on my butt every time if needed. Least I won't have fuzzies left behind.
