Hubby and I finished my Incubator!! Wanna see?

That's a good link too! I like how it says "part store part museum!" I have seen that kind of thermmostat before, ma had a metal incubator. We hatched chick in it al lthe time till the element burnt out. She could never find a replacement.

My hot water thermostat swings wide on the temps also. I was told to put it clase to the heat source, and I decided to use a higher watt lamp as well. It goes through it's high/low cycle quicker that way, and the average incubator temperature is more steady.

You will probably lose a lot of heat through the window as well. I have a big window on mine, and I cover it with a blanket or a coat, depending on whether I need the blanket or the coat at the time!

Looks great!

I built my incubator with a hot water heater thermostat for my last hatch and my temp swung from 96 to 102 constantly. Then when I went into lockdown the temp dropped down below 96 and I went crazy trying to get it back up to something reasonable. I hatched 9 out of 28 eggs, so, not too bad considering the temp problems. But I reworked my incubator and used a wafer thermostat that I got online from an ag site for about $30. It works great. I have 20 eggs in now and the temp goes from 98.8 to 99.7. Love it!

And, like Catwalk said, the window caused a lot of heat loss, I kept a blanket on it the whole time. So I redid them and made them double paned for better insulation. That is definately helping no blanket needed this time.

I love the fan with the blue light! Wish I had one of those..

Argh, it keeps sinking down to 94. It goes up to 100. I have turned it up again to see if theres a magic position. I might have to go and get a better thermostat, this would be thermostat #3..I sould just buy an incubator at this rate.

The temp inside the egg changes slower than that of the air, so you may be okay! Put in a hotter bulb so that it goes back and forth faster, and the eggs may not even notice!

Ok, seems like we found a plateau. I will try a few of th girls' eggs to see what happens. If anything I'm out a few eggs.

It looks like the thermostat is in the middle of the incubator an the fan is by the light? You need to swap the two. The fan needs to be out in the open an the thermostat needs to be by the light. That change should fix all your issues.

I just put 9 eggs in. We are trying to get at least one chick and at best 9 lol.. I'll take a pic here soon. What time do you lockdown?
