honestly ive had BETTER luck with freindly DWARF hamsters than i have had with Syrians (teddy bears) the bear hamsters (teddy, black bear, panda ect) are all syrians and syrians are naturally SOLITARY and noctrounal....maing them incredibly cute desk ornaments, because their solitary they never realy bond to their people and the only animal to ever bite me and draw blood is hamsters...ive worked with everythng from mice to lions, and the only animal i WONT touch is a syrian hamster....

the drawf species of hamsters however are social, often living in large colonies...
i have found dwarf hamsters like all hamsters to be nippy, especially so if they live alone (its like they get grumpy and depressed) but ive never had a dwarf hamster bite me as hard as every single syrian ive met ever has...
they take a long time to trust humans, after all you are a ginormous graby thing from the sky...
but ive found them to be much happier with being handled, and much more entertainng to watch even if you dont handle them than any of the syrian breeds.

the dwarf species do seem to be much happier in same sex pairs/groups though.
