seriously though i have to stop now....

When we first started talking about chickens we were going to get FIVE max. Five, yes FIVE. Five little buff orpingtons that was the plan yep. Oh but then we found out about green eggs, oh my goodness you can get green eggs? how novel! Ok maybe 1 of those too.... But then goodness didn't you know that Barred Rock are good bug eaters? Oh well add one of those then by all means. Then I had to go and read a book about chickens and see a beautiful picture of a pair of Salmon Faverolle pullets oh how I yapped on and on about the beauty of their feathery feets and unique look. When we went to get the first set of chicks we came home with EIGHT (DH is really a softie even though he growls). We lost one little chick and even he was sad and in his softy growlyness he said "get two more" Oh well now we're up to NINE. Then he found a Salmon Faverolle breeder... Oh dear, 11..... Yesterday I picked up a gold laced cochin and a blue andalusian to console myself that my dear darling beautiful Easter Egger rooster is going to go live at a friends house with more property and no neighbors to be bothered by crowing.

He's stopped calling me honey, darling, baby, or dear and now I'm just crazy chicken lady or chicken mom.

heh...

Oh good lord, I can relate. We were supposed to have three. ONLY 3. However.....my DH, the wonderful support system that he is took it upon himself to order the chicks since he has more time in the day than I do. So, he orders them.....nothing....no word from the seller....we wait...and wait.....forever

DH gets fed up and decides to head to Craigslist...oh crap

....and never told me....oh double crap. As I am putting my purse down having gone home for lunch on day, DH walks in with a box....full of 6 babies

"These are to replace the ones we apparently are not getting" he says... (I am thinking.. um there are 6 in there my sweet). About a week later he gets an email. Your chicks are in. Oh

triple crap!! I am the lucky one (and I mean that very lovingly

) that has to take a 40 minute drive to pick up the new babies. I am thinking....Ok, there are only 3 more...it will be ok..... Nope. 4. He had ordered a "secret" blue silkie

. So at this moment in time we have 10 very amazing, wonderful kids. Two of them are roosters so they will need to be rehomed but I couldn't be more happy with our group, I love them all so much!! Everyone has such a unique personality, I never knew chickens were so amazing. I am forever a chicken owner!!

Oh and I should say that out of the 10, only half are what we were told they would be, so we have ended up with some very interesting birds, which makes it all the more fun!!

I guess you have not made it to where I am , yet. Now when I get new chickens , he can't tell because I have so many already! It's like when I had show dogs , and after I had one for 6 months, he noticed her. What can he say at that point? Now he just comes home from work and says," I hope you sold about 100 chickens today." Sorry dear, this is goat week, I am at the sale , selling 5 of those;-)

Too funny, I can relate!!

I just wanted five Australorps . . . wait better get ten because you know you might lose a few when they are little because they are fragile and well we have never done this before so just to be sure. They send ten and twelve roosters!! So bright me trades the roosters for "credit". What do I get? Four more Australorp chicks he had there to sell. Oh wait honey did you know that you can breed for color. Look at these Bantam Cochins, aren't they cute. We need those for our five year old son to show in 4H next year. What about silkies? Have you seen the ducks at TSC? Too cute. Did you know that Guinea Fowl like to peck at snakes?

Sooooo fourteen very healthy Australorps later, we have five ducks- whoops how did that happen?, fifteen Bantam Cochin chicks, ten Silkie chicks, six Guinea keets, three dogs- two are Great Pyrenese mixes to protect all the birds, one Holland Lop and one Angora rabbit. Chicken, rabbit, duck and dog math!!

My husband is awesome
