Hudson Valley NY *chat thread*

We weren't sure if they were molting or just ragged from their rooster! I was surprised they were being shown, too, I think the photos of our Hudson Valley Thread chickens are much better looking than the ones at the Fair. As we were walking through the poultry building I kept thinking to myself "This is a Biosecurity Breach..." Are your chickens molting yet? I haven't seen any signs.

Sounds like fun! Hows the fair this year? I didnt get to go to either of them this yeat.
I really havnt done much this summer! Normaly we go to concerts and camping..but didnt do any of that.
We drove to Staten Island yesterday, but I wouldnt count that as exciting..the thruway on the way there was horrible. And on the way home in NJ it was even worse. We went down there to pick up some Harley parts.

Hi All
frow.gif
Had a busy week, my sister was in town. Niece loved the chickens/chicks/eggs incubating. It was nice but I am happy to be getting back to normal. We sat up all night late with a house full of company drinking wine/beer. We even went to a few of the wineries around here to get more wine on saturday.

I hope you found someone to catch the fox coupe.

Charlie I have a girl that finished molting and is back to laying...she looked rough. I swear I opened the coop one morning and thought she had been killed by the amount of feathers.
Here is a pic of just a part of her back

I can't believe people would show them in any kind of molt stage.
I have 14 eggs in the incubator with 13 showing development for sure.

Hope everyone has a better week this week.

Sounds like you had a fun visit with your sister! What wineries are near you? How was the wine? NY wines aren't my favorite..they always seem too young to drink although I've had a few good ones from Brotherhood and Robibero. The wineries along the Shawangunk Wine Trail are beautiful places to visit. My friend and I went on a cruise up the Pacific Coast last year. As one of our excursions we stopped at the Chateau St. Michelle/Columbia Crest winery in Washington ~ SO much fun. Good wine too! Anyway, molting doesn't look pleasant at all. I wonder if it hurts...? When are your eggs due to hatch? What breeds?

The fair was fun. We went Friday afternoon and left around 8:30; it started to get really crowded and my son was losing steam (ok I was also! lol). Besides the cruise in May, we didn't do much either. It seems Summer slipped away so quickly. We're squeezing in one more concert (Kid Rock and ZZ Top @ Bethel). I'd like to get to the Renaissance Fair at some point but I don't think that's going to happen. I have to start concentrate on getting The Boy ready for school. It'll be nice to get back into a routine. I'm looking forward to picking apples, canning, Halloween, etc! Have you been to the Great Jack O' Lantern Blaze? I wanna go but haven't heard good or bad about it. It looks pretty cool! Anyway.... Re: Staten Island...I've only been there a couple of times and both times it was a nightmare to get to! And the Thruway is never, ever an easy route, especially on Sunday afternoons. How's the fox situation???

Speaking of NY wines: one of the major apple orchards in NP is comming out with an apple jack! We got to sample a bottle and it was so smooth. It tasted like a chardonnay. It was probably the best wine I had all summer.
