Hudson Valley NY *chat thread*

There are 11 duckling! Thank you for letting me know how to sex them with their bills. I'll have my children help me with that, they are to fast to do it by myself! Does anybody have ducks that are free ranged in their yard? I would like to do that, I know it's different between the chickens and the ducks. Getting ducks back in their coop is a lot harder.

You can free range the ducks when they get bigger, but they also need a safe duck house. I find them harder to round up than chickens at night. Maybe they can be trained to go into their house? Ducklings grow so fast! Much faster than chicks.

I am getting ccl eggs from a breeder, so if i have a good hatch I will sell extras. I am planning on keeping at least 4 pullets. I only have a trio right now. I will let you know how it goes.

Thanks JerseyHen. I bought my eggs from a breeder in NC, but I know of someone in upstate NY who may have eggs also. If I have to, I'll go that route. Easier if I can get eggs or chicks locally.

Acire67, my duckling are in my dinning room. They aren't going outside until they are ready. I have a pond in my back yard. I would like them to use it. Just was wondering if anybody has free range ducks.

Hi Erica~ LOL @ Chickens Anonymous. Yah, we could use an intervention. I have the same space issue. Orps are so big I try to give them extra room. Right now I have 5 Orps and 2 EEs in that coop. Even adding 1 or 2 more will be pushing it which is why I decided to sell these babies. All or some MIGHT be sold. I'm waiting to hear from the co-worker of a friend. If you're interested in some from the next hatch (due around Mother's Day) or if there's any left from this recent one, depending on how many this guy wants, just let me know. I'll hold them for you. I'm waiting on coupe's lavenders also. I haven't seen her online lately. I hope she's ok. I think your sexing method is the way to go (unless you can vent sex of course). Sooner or later, the roosters will start to show those macho man characteristics ~ right now they all look the same so it's really hard to tell. We tried a couple of old wives-tale methods yesterday. We guessed we have 4 hens and 2 roos. Time will tell... The silkies are good. They're in the brooder in the garage until I'm sure they're not sick. So far they seem pretty healthy. I can't tell what they are. They'll go in the Girls' coop eventually. They're a friendly bunch and I have a buff silkie who may appreciate a couple of friends. I'm don't think I know Tina. What is her "BYC name"? I'll search for her silkie group on FB. Thank you! Lisa

Help! Went to Agway for chicken and chick feed. Got them..... and 2 ducklings! A Crested and a Khaki Campbell looking one. My daughters were with me, (one is as bad as I am) so I blame them. The ducklings are too cute. Tried to post a pic with my phone but lost it.

Going to have to sell some of my mixed chicks. Welsummer mixes, EEs, Salmon Faverolles mixes. Three weeks old if anyone is interested. Straight run. Also have one that looks like a Marans minus the feathered legs.

Anyone want a roo? I have a sweet one, kids can hold him, he comes running when I call him. Handsome guy, mom is a FBCM & dad was a Blue Salmon Faverolles. He looks like a Faverolles. 8 months old. Why am I looking for a new home for him? He's fighting with my bantam roos. He's protective of the hens, would like to see him on a farm with other chickens.

Welcome ChickenMama

How much are you planning to sell the chicks for?
