HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT - BYC SOFTWARE CONVERSION Tuesday 1/10/2012

First off: I'm already LOVE the "multi-quote" feature over there... it would have made this reply MUCH easier!

Second: Thanks to everybody for the great support! As you can imagine this has been a LOT of work by our team. We're also very thankful to all the sandbox testers who've been patient as we've discovered and worked through bugs.

We'll still find some bugs on conversion day and there are still a TON of new features being buit, but we're confident that the change will overall be fantastic for our community!

Oh... there sure will be!!!

Unless you have already done so, it might be nice to explain to the Gold & Platinum what the advantages are. As more PM and Storage space were the main advantages or so I thought.

Actually, we polled our GFMs & PPMs to ask why they purchased a membership upgrade.
The #1 reason (by far): "Just To Support BYC"
#2 is almost perfectly tied between: More image & PM space & Custom Title

Here's an example of one of the many features GFMs get: The ability to turn off ads on the site!

So, don't worry... we've put a LOT of thought into all this stuff, but if any members feel like their membership upgrade is no longer of value, they can contact us.

Honestly, we're not totally sure, but it will probably be most of Tuesday. Just transferring all the gigabytes of data is a SUPER long process, but then configuring everything is another daunting test... you should see the configuration checklist I posted for the staff to review... HUGE!

Well, after all the data is transferred & configuration is done we'll also spend a lot of time running test posts, uploads, etc. just to make sure everything is working properly. At that point we'll feel comfortable to open up the doors to the world!

Lots of questions about the new BSA!
In general the new system will be loosing the ability to bid & proxy bid (which is a little buggy and confusing here). We'll be going back to the way things were before we added the auction system, but this time we'll still have feedback features (which should be easier to use), etc.

We're working hard to figure out the best policies, processes, etc. for the new system... heck, we're not even sure what to call it. We may go back to Buy Sell Trade (BST) since that's what most of the old-timers are use to, and "trading" (swapping) has become a big part of our community.

So, in general there will be some initial work to do for all of us to get use to the new BST, but with your help we feel we'll work it all out pretty quickly!

Of course!

Lots of great questions about mobile!

Initially we'll be integrated with Tapatalk. The main forum isn't terribly mobile friendly, but the engineers are working on HUGE project to create a mobile version of the site which should work speedy fast on almost any mobile browser AND won't require an application!

Full mobile support and system performance (speed and stability) are the two biggest priorities for the engineers after the conversion!

The ability to upload images into your posts is WAY WAY easier. Honestly, the process of grabbing BBCode, etc. is super geeky and I'm super impressed so many peeps here have figured it out.

NOTE: While the new image system has a ton of benefits and in many areas is easier to use, there is one area that is a bit challenging: Getting pictures from your existing albums / galleries into forum posts. The good news: The galleries / albums system is getting a big upgrade in the next month, so inserting images from your albums will be even easier!

Yep, they'll be there.

New ability to search within individual topics and individual threads
So if there's a thread that's 150 pages long, you can search within that thread.

ACK!!!! I have a permanent technical impairment - I basically can manage 'send' 'delete' "reply' and 'forward'. A nything like "cut and paste," I only recall from kindergarton.

My brother is a security systems analyst (what he calls himself) for VA. My son is a code writer, etc. Both will swear on a stack of bibles that I am totally- unfit for anything more complicated than that. I wish the new BYC had a retro program for mentally impaired seniors.(me)

Hopefully I will be able to continue reading what others are doing.

So very disappointed about losing the features on the Auctions. Since eggbid went down, there were a ton of auctions sites to start up, but BYC had THE BEST by far, and it has become THE auction site for BST. Not sure if those that leave because of losing the bidding feature, will come back. Just wanted to show my disappointment as well as the dozens of friends that have emailed me in the last 2 hours about this.

This is one of the reasons that the decision to go with this system took about 3 months. There are tradeoffs, but at the end of the day we realized we had to do what was overall best for the community, and after a ton of discussion and evaluation we found the many many pros outweigh the cons.

With that said, we've got it on our list to add auction support back, but we also recognize that there are some other very high priority items (better mobile support, performance improvements, etc.)

Yes, all BYC pages have and will be converted over to a MUCH easier to use system!

For example, say you want to work on a project with 4 of your BYC friends. You can now create a page and give each of them, and only them, access to edit the page! You can add more peeps or remove peeps from access to editing your page at any time. You can even make it open for all members to edit if you really want a full group experience.

So you are saying the the bid system will be back at some point, that the "old" way of selling is a temp thing, until things get ironed out? Just trying to get info, so that there is no confusion, and my emails can slow down. Thxs
