Huge, bloody mass under wing. Please help! Going out of town tonight!

Good to hear about the bactrim. Penicillin is one of the few drugs farmers have access to, and there are so many other antibiotics and sulfa drugs that do much better. SMZ-TMP is actually available for animals, but most feed stores don't have it. Let us know how she does. Do try to contact Lalaland or another Minnesotan about obtaining another hen if something happens to her. I don't know about other people, but I'm always willing to give away birds to people in need or that want to start a flock. My only requirement is that they have to keep them in a coop and take good care of the chickens.

Well I have 1 dose in her of the bactrim. She is a tough one to get liquids into, very stubborn!

I posted in the Minnesota thread a couple days ago and had a couple offers! I also messaged where we board our dogs knowing they have chickens asking if they knew of anyone that would be willing and they offered to give me one. So grateful knowing there are people willing to help in times of need. I think I will bring one in at the end of April where I have a few days off of work to monitor them all. Plus it will be so much warmer in a month... Still too cold/snowy for them to want to leave their coop.

Out of curiousity, you said you require to people to keep chickens in a coop if you give them away. Do you let yours free range at all?

JW because I dont let mine freerange very often, unless I am supervising, because I am too nervous about predators. I always wonder if that is a deal breaker to people willing to give chickens to me because dont let them be free whenever they please.

Connie has gone from 1200g to 1050 g in a week and a half. No change of the tumor… maybe bigger but it is flatter/wider.

:(

She has food in her crop so the tumor must just be taking all her nutrients away. My poor baby!

Oh I free range my chickens every day, all day. I would just ask that someone I gave a chicken to would keep them locked up in a coop at night, because many people don't realize that you have to do that. I talk to people all the time that tell me something got their chickens at night, and those kinds of people I don't give them to. Or to the people that don't have a coop at all. Sorry about the tumor growing and the weight loss. Scrambled eggs is my best treat for putting on weight. Low salt tuna and liver are usually well-received.

Thanks :)

Well both of the girls are going through a really hard molt. I looked at Connie yesterday and her whole body is growing the thick pins of feathers in like craaaazy. Even my healthy one is miserable crawling under the dog bed in the yard and passing out. They just cringe if I even touch them and they both have lost weight in the past going through the molts so I am sort of relieved that that may be the reason Connie is thinner and less rambunctious than her usual self.

BUT then on the other hand, she may get weaker while going through the molt to get through the other stuff. BLAH

The tumor is odd looking now. I wish I would have taken a picture before I went back to work because its really hard to explain. It is circular and then a circle within it as big as a silver dollar is a super thick scab almost caving into the tumor and then around that is more normal skin thats really puffy sticking up over the scab.

Its really hard to know. Its almost like its flattening and caving inward from the inside but then pushing it wider.

I should have gotten a pic and now I wont be home for awhile. Thats the hardest part...being away from her through all this. Just had to give her a big hug goodbye and hoped it wasnt my last .
