Yeah!! I'm new to this site and to chickens. There is so much information on this site that it was easy for me to get lost in all the posts. Hopefully the new changes will help me find my way around a bit easier.

Sounds good, should make it easier for everyone to only read what they want to and be able to avoid topics that might upset them.

Thank you mods for the changes - I really like the new categories.

I do have a question about the new rules though. They state you are discouraging religious and political threads and they can be deleted without warning but then the rules say to post religious and political threads under "Ramdon Ramblings". So is it o.k. to post a thread titled "Pray for me" or "Whose upset over last night's election?" (just using random topic threads that represent the majority of what is normally posted)?

Starting now we will strongly discourage any religious or political threads or topics. We will allow limited posting on these topics, but we reserve the right to delete them at our discretion and without notice to the original posters......The topics of religion and politics should be confined to the “Random Ramblings” section of the forum.

I know you guys really have your work cut out for you. Already today there are political threads started and locked which is why I'm asking for clarification - might help others also.

Personally, I hope that prayer requests are not banned and would be fully in favor of having a religious and political forum. I would probably never visit the political one, just don't like to talk politics, but I would love to talk Christian values and prayer and if it were allowed in it's own forum then those who have no belief system whatsover couldn't say they are offended, they could just skip that category. If those topics are going to be allowed under Random Ramblings then those playing the offended trump cards can still play them.

This is much more than a chicken forum, it is a social forum and type of family. All ideas and topics should be welcomed and allowed. If you deleted every thread that wasn't soley 100% about chickens there wouldn't be much left. I personally enjoy seeing pictures of people's goats (made me go buy Nigerian Dwarfs) and reading about the lives and pets and family members and personal issues of other BYC members. It's how we all learn to know one another.

Yeah, yeah, I know, I don't have to read them. That's nonsense when half the time you don't know the subject matter when you open most posts.
EDIT: BTW, that bit that "we're a family" doesn't wash for an excuse either.

Great question about prayer requests!

We are not banning prayer requests. If they are posted, we'd like for them to go within the new Ramblings section, but we also understand they may apply to the "Family" section. We will probably move / remove them if they are in other sections.

Please know that we cannot control the types of prayers you receive or the comments which will be posted on the prayer requests. We'll do our best to keep people from trolling and intentionally causing problems, but be aware that these things happen with these types of threads. We also do not want this to be a segregation where people post that they only want a specific type / religion prayer request (as you can see how that can cause a lot of problems as well).

Hopefully everyone understands the difficulty we face with such a diverse group and such difficult topics. We will continue to do our best to ensure BYC remains the best chicken forum (with social benefits) in the world!
