I am so sorry for your loss. Your story is why we never go anywhere together and I rarely go anywhere on vacation at all. I don't trust anyone but my husband and I don't even trust him completely.

I would be angry and disappointed also, if I were you.

I live in an area where I know very few people, so I prepare for events like being gone for several days. I built continuous feeders and waterers for the chickens and the dogs guard against predators. Their small chicken door is open at all times. The dogs have a large water bucket that holds about 10 gallon that can also be plugged in and heated in cold weather. They also can be fed in a special feeder if we have to go somewhere. The cat...well, he helps himself to the dogs bucket if his bowl is empty and he can hunt, so no worries about him! I have the dogs contained with above ground invisible fencing, plus the property is now fenced completely if the batteries fail while I'm away. I have found that you really can't depend on folks like you used to...

Now that you know that you can't depend on your neighbors...even if you pay them

....

I would start trying for feeders and waterers that hold 3-5 days worth.

Man oh man!! What an irresponsible person. I regularly petsit. i am such a stress case when I petsit, I actually don't even sleep well because I get worried that I won't be up in time to let out animals. I always leave a report EVERY day I visit. I never ask for or take money before the job is done. I work at an animal shelter, we often get pets in when the petsitter lost them. If you go on a vacation fora few days, you might actually lose your pet forever in a different way. We hold all strays for 7 days. if you go away to hawaii for 2 weeks or so your dog or cat can go unclaimed and be adopted to a different home!! It has happened before!!

People are so lame!!!
I am truly sorry. Hopefully no one asks her for help with their pets again.
