Human failure = losses (long)

I guess I would have handled it a little differently than some here. FIRST thing I would have done is called the Humane Society or SPCA and had her charged with neglect.

This is no friend by any definition of the word.

I'm so sorry! That person is so horrible. I can't believe she did that and didn't even apologize once! Not that truly apologizing will bring back your animals or take the sadness away, but at least you know that the person has some decentcy, be it miniscule, to at least put on her big girl underwear and apoligize for the horrible things she did and the sadness she caused you. Like I said, I'm so sorry you have to go through that.

what a big loss of fine animals!! - and after a week in the hospital with your son too. - I hope that he is now OK.

i agree that you should send her a bill - after she threw your money out the window at you, she deserves to be billed or taken to small claims court to pay for the feed, time spent raising the animals, purchase price, etc.

This is one reason that I'm very hesistant to go camping this year. This is the first year that we've had chickens, and I'm new to this area. I don't know anyone well enough to trust them with my chickens.

geez. That's just awful. Well since she tossed your money back at you. She must know she was in the wrong. I would hull her lazy butt to small claims court. At least to recoup some of your loss. Maybe she will be more responsible next time she pet sits for someone. You won't get a lot of money but even if she has to give you an extra $1.00 you will be making a point. Again sorry for your loss

I'm so very sorry for your losses..
Not much of a friend, in my book...
She breached the contract, glad you got the money back, even though it doesn't bring your animals back...

Hope your little one's okay...

When we went to Philly last summer, I asked my sister to take care of Penny and Obelisk...and she did...for no reward whatsoever...

If *I* make a promise to do something, I darn well WILL!!! WTH is wrong with people that they can't keep their promises?

So all of us can learn from Mangled horrible experience, maybe when we have to leave our homes for a period of time, have two people check the animals. Have them trade alternate days. (Like have Person A do Mon, Wed and Fri, and Person B do Tues, Thurs, and Sat). That way, one can check on the other's work, and if one person can't make it, they have the second person to call to fill in.
