I never even heard of this until an interview on (where else?) NPR this morning. An author named Greg Epstein did an excellent job putting it simply. Interesting and inspirational.

Anyway- another cool anniversary coming up- a day that some light was shed on the states:
President Lincoln announced the Emancipation Proclamation, which granted freedom to slaves in Confederate states, on New Year's Day in 1863.
