Max had been trapped in the burning building and had gotten a bad burn across his face along with a couple other scratches. Eventually, he had made it out and ran home, his face burning with intense pain. When he woke up the next day, his mom was sitting on the side of his bed crying. "Mom, whats the matter?" said Max. suddenly the pain returned and he was forced back into his bed with a groan. "Your face," his mom whispered. Max took a mirror from his bedside table and looked. His face was all knarled and burned. it looked like a tree's bark. Max was shocked. "Will it get better?" he asked. His mom shook her head.

Max's phone buzzed on his bedside table. It was his friend Jhonas. Max answered the call. His buddie's voice came out of the phone.
"You okay bro?"
"Naw man I got some pretty bad burns,"
"Dang!"
"Yeah, I know,"
"You want to come over? Noah and Logan are here,"
"Sure dude,"
"See ya there,"
Max groaned again and forced himself out of bed. His dog Bowzer licked Max's hand and wined. Max ruffled his fur. Once he was dressed, Max put on a ball cap and went into town. he pulled his hat even farther down. Once he reached Jhonas's house he knocked on the door. Jhonas opened it.
"Come on inside dude!" Max entered. He other friends Logan and Noah were sitting on the couch watching football. Noah turned.
"Eh! Max! How it going?" Max sighed. "Not that well. Look," Max took his hat off and held his breath.
"Aww Dang!" said Logan. Noah and Jhonas just stared.
"Yeah," said Max again. Their conversation was almost exactly like the phone call.
