Humans are animals, too

Ain't THAT the truth!!!

To clarify, when I say that "nature left to itself is perfect", don't confuse that with me saying everything would be alive & well & unchanging. "Perfect Nature" includes extinction, survival, non survival, disease, predators, etc. That IS a perfect balanced system actually.

I was referring to the ways humans interfere with that balance by doing unnatural harm and interference. Take this Gulf oil leak for example. Of course turtles, fish and other sea life die in nature. But I think we would all agree that it should NOT be this way, right? Their life spans, or whether they get filtered down through predators, etc is natural and not comparable to the mass destruction to the ecosystem we may cause with this.

Yep, I agree on the oil spill. I at the same time, agree with both Wyandotte and Bunny. Another thing I think screws up the animals (in chicken related) is helping chicks out of eggs and keeping/letting crooked toe/beak/neck/tail birds breed. In the wild they'd die, and it only breeds on weakness, that's why I cull 'em (how I raise birds though, ones that could not survive by themselves would become extinct anyway even if I didn't select them). But I know plenty of people who do not.

The difference between humans and animals is that humans like to manipulate all that surrounds us. You'll never see a gorilla build nothing more than a leafy twig nest to sleep in because that all he/she needs. On the other hand, a rich man will build a 50 room estate and still feel the urge to urinate on the tree in the back yard. Human beings like to change anything possible. Look how many chicken breeds are out there. All the type of livestock we created though selective breeding which is the old fashioned method of genetic manipulation.

We are superior to nature's creation in the manner we take care of our young, injured and weak. Look how we tend to a premature baby in order to secure survival. How we struggle to keep an accident victim alive. Look at all we discovered in our need to cure disease. Humans are constantly seeking change. Animals are perfectly content to stay within their niche as nature designed. They will abandon their weak and injured.

As human beings were are not perfect. We murder, rape, destroy. We are human beings and once we learn how to use our entire brain we may finally succeed as a species. Yes, we can degrade our fellow humans but remember it is a human who is washing the oil off a gasping brown pelican while the other animals escape to a safer place. We created a catastrophe and are now trying to save what we can...it's our desire to correct our mistakes that makes us human beings.
