Question #1
I have a hovabator genesis and have 29 eggs in it right now. Im on day 9 right now. I have my humidity just right and I check on it all the time. When Im home everything is fine, when I get up in the morning everything is still fine. I try to keep it within the 48-53% range. Well when I get home from work(4pm) its always dropped down to high 30's or low 40's. Why is it doing that? I then have to had water to get it back up to where I need it. Is there something Im doing wrong?

Question #2
When you candle eggs and see that they arent forming, when do you throw them out? I dont want to make the mistake of throwing out a good one, that I thought was a quitter. But on the other hand, I dont want to keep them in there and them explode. So when do YOU normally toss them?

(I will take pictures of some in question and post them in a bit)

Now I remember why I use a broody hen and not a bator.

Sorry, I can't help about the humidity question. I'm not sure why it is dropping by I don't think it will be a problem as long as you are adding water when you can to keep it up while you can. When I incubated my last batch (turkey eggs) the humidity was dropping constantly. I finally gave in and let it bottom out (low 40s, high 30s) because it was too much work to constantly add water. The babies that developed hatched just fine!

As for the candling, you are incubating chicken eggs, right? I think by day 10 you'll probably be able to tell for sure (unless you have dark eggs). But as long as eggs don't stink I leave them in the bator in case some sort of miracle wants to happen
