Hummingbirds are back!

You are so lucky, they look amazing. We don't have hummingbirds in the UK - what do you put in a feeder and what does the feeder look like? Pardon my ignorance!

This is a typical kind of feeder. You mix 1 part white sugar to 4 parts water and to make a nectar. They are attracted to the color red and you often see the nectar colored red, but that is not necessary. Nectar is only part of their diet ~ they also eat lots of small bugs and spiders.

Sgt'smom, that's an awesome shot and exactly what it looks like here in the morning and evening around all the feeders!...We go thru a gallon of nectar a day at the peak, people we've asked said that takes 250-300 of them and we don't doubt it!...

Here is a video from a hot July day:

WARNING: NOT SURE WHATS ON THE SOUND, NOTHING EXCITING I'M SURE BUT BETTER TO BE SAFE AND KEEP TURNED DOWN...

I can't take credit for that picture ~ it is from this site ~ http://www.the-scoop-on-wild-birds-and-feeders.com/hummingbirdfood.html
It is great one though!

Your video is GREAT! We don't get that many at once and usually the little buggers are defending the feeders and dive bomb other hummers when they get near. I put out feeders on all sides of the house so that they are out of sight of the others so more can feed without being chased away.

Last week I went to gather eggs mid morning. There was a humming bird trapped in the coop, had apparently gotten in the chicken door. It was freaking out when I went in the coop and the chickens didn't care for it either. My rooster was sounding the alarm LOL. I opened both doors wide and moved towards it so I could find the way out.
