When i saw the OP it said Youth waterfowl. I don't guess the rest of you guys got it, and given i didn't say (hunt pics) the first time, but i immediately knew he meant youth waterfowl hunting season.
desertdarlene- Really, around here there thick as flies on a mules...butt. its a shame, there fun to watch and listen to.
Roocrazy-do you plan on mounting it or just eating? beautiful bird btw.
And how many people on here post about muscovy's and raising and eating them? (i know he didn't raise it himself but...)
Grats on yur first hunting trip.
Some people are senstive to hunting but don't take it away from others that enjoy the sport.
My husband just got into hunting and enjoys it. Our male lab is a master huntsmen and loves to hunt so badly he jumps in friends cars hoping to get out and get some birds.
If anything the hunting training has made him respect my birds even more. I've never had a issue with my labs and my own flock. He is trained not to flush the birds. It is amazing they are able to hold a duck and not punctor them at all.
I would post pictures of him with a duck in his mouth but that might make people angry so I won't.

Wow! We don't have hardly any wood ducks, but that's why they're not listed as legal species to hunt in California and are OK to hunt in other areas. We probably have ducks listed that aren't common in your areas, too. People can hunt mallards, of course, but I think they can also hunt canvasbacks and scaups, too. And, of course, coots.
Come to think about it, I haven't seen any canvasbacks, yet, at all or scaups.

we can hunt those species but we are only allowed like...
"The daily bag limit is 6 ducks, which may include no more than 5 mallards (only two of which may be hens), 3 wood ducks, 2 pintails, 2 scaup, 2 redhead, and 1 canvasback. Daily bag limit for mergansers is 5 (only two hooded mergansers, and daily limit for coots is 15."
There have been reports of strange accounts of seaducks in kansas and are allowed to take them but the odds of that happening are not just slim to none but pretty much->NONE.
There is a bigger bag limit here, but close to the same limits on the other birds you mentioned, except wood ducks. I don't remember the limit for mergansers, but I think it's lower than your state. Also, the limit here is 25 coots mostly because they are overpopulated here.
I didnt have hunting on the oringinal title: im really sorry( the hunter i am just figured youth waterfowl day would be a no brainer) Im really sorry but that is why i changed the title.
I do plan to mount him with a young female woodduck i got last year on youth waterfowl day.
I figured you changed after you realized that I did not know it had to do with hunting. It's sad that the bird had to die, but it has to die eventually. So it is nature to me and I'm not mad at all. You did hunt a very nice bird. I'm proud of your achievement, so congratulations.
