I got a doe on opening day here in IL. Shot her at 5:30pm and she was down in about 5 seconds but by time I got my climber and gear back to the truck, borrowed a friend's deer cart (and some friends to help!) and got her out, it was pretty late. Thank goodness for friends and deer carts. It's a half mile uphill from where I shot her to the truck, which is a long way for flatlander.
Ive agreed to stay out of the woods here until my sons score. I'd really like to see my youngest get his 1st with a bow, and I want to see my oldest get a crack at a nice buck with his bow. This is tough haha!
Me and Loki the 5 mo. old golden retriever had a good weekend of duck hunting. Wife temporarily lost the camera so I can't post pics right now.
Got a redhead, blue wing teal, 2 mallards and 2 woodies sat plus 2 bonus honkers.
Sunday got 2 mallards, greenwing teal (missed the Gadwall he was mixed with, silly little teal took one for the team instead), and 2 woodies. Lost one bird in the floating bogs. I count lost birds in my bag. Was really funny watching a 5 month puppy retrieve his first geese. Grabbed a wing and swam, dragged, coughed wheezed and growled the whole way back to the canoe but he got them in! GOOD BOY!!!!
For the first time in many years I was able to pick and choose the birds I shot at for type, sex and ease of retrieve. Passed many, many shootable birds. Anybody downstream along the Mississippi has one heck of a duck season to look forward to when they fly south. Never seen so many young birds, especially woodies and teal. More redheads and local mallards than usual too.
Great job on the doe!!! Best tasting meat! I hear ya on the hike outta the woods. I am handicapped and am lucky I have the ability to use a 4-wheeler to assist me or I wouldn't be able to go at all.
I did some crop damage hunting this morning and took down a big body small rack 5 point buck. I haven't had the chance to take a pictures b/c I had to go to work but, I hope to take one soon.

Nice doe! I won't get out this bow season, I am trying to sell my bow....
Watcha selling?
It's a Hoyt Sierra-Tec. 50-60 pounds (short strung right now at 46 pounds) My husband can press it to put it back to normal though. (We do all our own bow work, he worked for years in a bow shop) Draw Length is 25-27. I would like $200 or B.O. It's only a few years old. I am only selling due to a bad shoulder.
Hey, I wanted to let you know I had the same problem with my Hoyt. I wind up shortening my draw length 1/2 inch and switched to the matthews Passion Bow last year. I've had reconstructive surgery on my left shoulder a couple years back so I understand the shoulder pain. But, BOY did it make a difference doing those two changes. I been to several bow shoots with the guys this past winter/spring and I kicked a few of their butts and kept up with the best of em
Don't get me wrong Hoyts are great bows but, I just found the matthews to be more geared towards a womans physic (sp).
