hunting

small game starts 15 Sep here .. time to go out and get some pat's. Coon Season starts 1 OCT then Water Trapping starts 1 Nov so I have a bit to wait for seasons to open.

Archery opens soon for whitetails..will be out after a buck only w/crossbow, i don't shoot doe myself here, not enough around to justify it for me.

But cant wait till PA bear opens again..want to take one with my s&w 500 revolver instead of a rifle for once, seen 3 last year but no shot way to far and fast moving..

Bear season should be awesome this year. I'm going with my boyfriend's uncle and his gang of guys. Last year it was just the ex and I, and we saw naught but bear crap. I still need to pick up a rifle for bear/deer season. Getting my bow as soon as my check clears my bank though! The boyfriend finally decided that it was going to be less hassle to just get his bow restrung to go out this year than to listen to me picking at him, lol. So, we're definately going for deer archery. No bear archery this year though. I'll just be getting my bow in a few days, and I won't feel confident enough to go shoot a bear with a bow all by myself. Nobody will come with me for that, the bf won't shoot another bear (he's a total softy) and his uncle doesn't do archery.

I know of nobody else besides the ex, and we already decided against going together, lol.
As for doe, I'm definately shooting whatever I see that's legal. I'm out for the meat, not pride. But, I certainly won't pass up a nice buck if I see one, lol.

Heard you on the good season..hope so.., not many bear here in my neck of pa(Lehigh county), but a few around, hahahha ya thats what most see in Pa is Bear crap during the season, Ain't many doe here either so i only take bucks, been 5+ years since we last killed any doe, but by choice. I don't hunt rack size just legal bucks, however i will hold back on smaller legal bucks for at least half the archery season..then if nothing extra nice, i will take what ever legal i must, also i like to try to take my animal before deer rifle opens..

There are doe galore around here. BF and I went spotting last night. Everywhere was littered with doe and their fawns. I have no problem taking does when you see so darn many out there. Where I *want* to go bear hunting, there aren't too many deer, but that's because the bear are all over the place. I'll be deer hunting in several areas, but all in 4D, since that's where my doe tag is at, lol.

I have a deer camp in Elk County Pa. Near Parker Dam. I go out there for rifle season every year. With the economy the way it's been the deer population is way down. Hey people have to eat. So I am guessing it's year round deer season for the locals lol. I have tons of deer on my farm here in NJ. So I don't really care if I even see a deer in Pa. I just like getting away for a week out in the boonies lol. Beer, cards, camp life. Dont git no better. No wife, no kids, no tv, and cell phones dont work.

All this PA hunting talk has me thinking about the "old days". I was born and raised just outside of Pittsburgh, PA. I haven't even started to get ready for hunting yet. I have some .243 handloads left over from last year for Sharon but I have to get the reloader going for 7-08 for me. I know the deer stand is in good shape since it's only about 100 feet from the back door.

Yup in some places the doe are being wiped out basically in pa.. last year was the worse for many hunters in this location.
my property adjoins the blue Mt's which is land locked game lands to the general public behind my home, 1000's of acres, the only ones really hunting it are me and my nabors down the street from me which everybody has it posted, duirng archery i have only ever seen one other hunter up in there... however on the opener of rifle last year on the other side i heard about 5 shots the whole day. Now those parking lots were filled with cars on the other side easy access.

Lucky me my side is tough to get to and the few doe that are here stay on this side. I seen four big shooter bucks, 2 8 pointers and 1 10 pointer and one huge 10+ pointer across the street on 225 acres of private land i sometimes hunt. couple shooter small bucks around to.

The day they allowed buck and doe for the very first time for two whole weeks of hunting (couple years ago), that day sounded like a war zone which i will never ever forget, but has been dieing out over the years now.
