So sad but, so true

Weird part is it is still up for sale and I can't believe no one snagged it up! It was a super set up for deer. Surrounded by apple orchards on two sides, a huge swamp in the back, and a natural land shaped funnel. It also had Big Oak trees with lots and lots of acorns! Maybe if my health improves and it's still for sale in a year or so I will try again

I've never had the pleasure of shooting a 30-06, does anyone know if the kick is any worse (or less than) a 12 ga. shotgun shooting slugs? (we call 'em pumpkinballs around here, ahah!)

Depending on the shotgun itself they would be very close in kick. That is just my opinion not sure how others feel

A lot depends on the gun itself, but I would think it would be similar with the heavier load 30-06 and maybe less than a slug with the lighter load.

I haven't shot my 30-06 for a long time. It's a pre-64 Model 70 Winchester, so it has been retired with honors.

I do like shooting a .270, though, and with different loads you can get ballistics very similar to the 30-06 with the lighter load.

no an 06 is a sweet shooting gun. Shot one for years, still do, very similar to a 12 gauge, not much kick at all, and I'm a little guy, 5'5" 120 pounds.
Nothing to it.
I also shoot a 300 win mag, now you need to have a grip when you let them loose. It'll rear up the front end of a shooting sled!

yeah man!!! I shot a 300 Win Mag only 1 time and never again!!!! I think my shoulder seperated from that thing!!! I may be rugged for a woman but, man I'm not Rocky Balboa!!

I'll stick with my .308 anyday over those big boys

Not only that call me a whimp but, I shoot a 20 gauge when I go hunting on state land. I've never ever had a problem taking down one but, then again with CT forest the way they are it's not like open huge valleys, open fields and rolling landscapes so that I guess wouldn't work if I ever get my Dream hunt and get the heck outta CT For some bigger game

Yep I only use mine when I am on a long range stand and need some knock down power at 300 yards or better. Being in south Georgia we dont have a lot of that anyway, mostly river bottoms and swamps where we hunt. If I ever get to go on my dream elk hunt though, It'll be perfect.

It was my dads and when he passed, I got it is the only reason I have one . The dang bullet looks like a milk jug stuck in the end of a 55 gallon barrel, one heck of a casing on those things!

Lots of people use too much gun. I'm considered a bit of a neanderthal by most of my cohorts, and a 30-06 is as much as I care to shoot. I really don't enjoy 180 grainers at that. If I ever get the chance to hunt elk or moose I'll just have to grin and bear it. Too much recoil will make you a bad shooter. If your game is smaller than an elk, a .270 or similar is the most gun you'll ever need.

A lightweight 12 ga with full power slugs is a lot of beast. If you can take that, a 30-06 is no problem.

I once shot a 458 win mag built on a compact, relatively lightweight bolt action. Uff da! Cinderblock didn't stand a chance, neither did my shoulder.
