A bear ate my bees.:(
There's a thread out in the predator area that show's how to protect from Bears. It's actually intended to protect the coop and run--but should work for bees too. I really need to get a 50' electronet and charger for mine. Chickens and turkeys stole the one I had.

I just had a  moment....bears EAT bees?! What!!! Then I remembered my 1970's cartoons. :lau And obviously bees are not the same as vicious ground hornets.
We don't have bears in DE (that I'm aware of) and I only know two bee keepers. So, I'm fascinated by all the hive keeping posts but horrified you would have to worry about a bear!

My tractor guy tells me they are being driven east toward me as well as west toward me by land developers... They are buying up 100+ acre farms and turning them into sub-divisions. ARG:he

That saddens me. I'm in an area of my state which is mainly suburbs but there are large estates nearby left over from the DuPont years. They've started selling off these large beautiful land parcels of woods and rolling hills and turning them into sub-divisions as well. I'm sure they'll be massively expensive homes but with very little yard space compared to what the area used to be.

I don't have to worry about bears (yet) but I know all the development is causing serious issues with deer. Lots of car wrecks now that wouldn't have been the case years ago.
Yea, over the last dozen plus years, I've seen a serious increase in deer along the 95 corridor. I spent a lot of time driving from N.VA to ACY.

My  deer moment was coming off a major ramp from I-95 onto a major secondary road and having deer cross over it just as myself and many other drivers were cruising along. Don't know where they came from or where they thought they were going!!! Luckily no one smashed into them or each other. And luckily I didn't pee myself. :lau

They eat honey and bee grubs that's for sure lol! Also tear your whole setup apart and make the surrounding area stink like bear. I'm thinking about redoing the whole thing with a log hive.
