Agreed. Lots of snow is fun.
Though, never being in a flood/hurricane, I would wonder why people wouldn't go swimming or get out their rapids rafts LOL
Well maybe if it was clean water...:sick
It is definitely NOT clean water. You have no idea what is in the water, or what is on the ground. At least you can go shovel your way out of the snow, you can't get out of a hurricane (most of the time).

In the flood of 98' the Guadalupe River at Seguin, Texas had basketball size fire ants going down the river. And once the water receeded, they were everywhere. Got bit so many times I had a sever reaction.

For those who haven't seen them, this is what the floating balls of fire ants look like. When I was out canoeing in one of the water impoundments they use to protect the city I was surrounded by thousands of these. When one touches shore they start disembarking. As other ant balls touch a beached ant ball long causeways form in the water where they climb over each other to get to shore. I saw causeways extending 10' or more from dry land.

Silly little tip, but if you place a bowl of ice cubes in your freezer and lost power, you will know if your food defrosted and refroze if there is either ice cubes or frozen water in your bowl when you do finally open your freezer once power is restored.

another way of doing in that is to freeze a bowl of water take place a quarter on top the block of ice that way you know how long the power was out by where the quarter sits on or in the ice your hoping that it stays on top or at least as close to the top as possible but no lower than the middle of the bowl

Think about all the junk people keep in their sheds, etc. and petro products from cars, plus your sewers are backing up into that water. Skin absorbs junk from the water, stay out of it if you can. Especially if you have cuts or sores or are diabetic, etc.

Stay safe everyone: This quote is from the NOAA advisory from this am.

RAINFALL: Harvey is expected to produce additional rainfall
accumulations of 15 to 25 inches through Friday over the upper Texas
coast and into southwestern Louisiana. Isolated storm totals may
reach 50 inches over the upper Texas coast, including the Houston/
Galveston metropolitan area. These rains are currently producing
catastrophic and life-threatening flooding, and flash flood
emergencies are in effect for portions of southeastern Texas.

When we had the floods here in '93 the warnings were to stay out of the flood waters due to contamination. Especially near the cities since the water treatment plants had been flooded as well as everything else that could be in that water.

I have been through countless Blizzards and a couple Hurricanes...... I will take a Blizzard anyday. Only thing you have to make sure of is warmth and shovel off the roof so it doesn't collapse (people forget that).

Hope you are able to sleep !

@Ursuline Chick What is the name of Hand Crank Radio do you have ? I need to get one before Winter comes this year.
