I think it's a matter of perspective. We've just come out of the longest quiet period for major hurricanes in history, and now it's returning to normal. Compared to some disasters that happened early in the 20th century this is nothing.

I bet those people thought the world was coming to an end. I've read a number other things like this that made my head spin. It's hard to believe what some people have gone through without modern conveniences.

Speaking to earthquakes - they are certainly deadly and no fun! As a child, I was in several while living in the Philippines. Tsunami warnings and everything. The biggest one I was in was a 7.9 and caused a lot of damage! Anything that is on a Pacific coastline is prone to earthquakes due to the tectonic activity in that region. The Atlantic is getting bigger and the Pacific is getting smaller. The earthquakes are a result of the earth shifting under one continental plate or another and are fairly common on the west coast.

Kikis - it's ok. Really, it is. If I had satellite TV at the moment, I would probably be glued to it 24/7.

Fortunately, I have internet. I tend to read a lot!

There's no one on Barbuda because they made everyone leave.

I read that many who were evacuated off may not ever come back. Not that I can blame them after this week.....

The Ring of Fire. They just found the southern part of the ring of volcanoes under a mile or two of ice in Antarctica.
