Is there anything you can do to discourage the hawk from coming around?

I'm not sure....I've literally stood in the yard and ran at it...it's a pair and they are fearless. The back is state land/wooded/marsh and they roost there. My girls/guy are quick...but they are little and the hawk has dove even at the roo....while I was holding him.

Are hawks protected where you are ?

and may not.
I usually only decorate the house for Christmas.

Yes actually. A lot of flying birds hate discs because of their reflection an brightness. Hang a few discs from trees and see how it goes.
