Looks great. Main issue, some woods have no character and you need to give it some. Other woods are loaded with character and all you have to do is accentuate it. Then there's the whole conversation about inlays and other techniques to drive out the uniqueness of a piece of wood. Things like dyeing.
This is where I am going to have a huge problem.
Trying to decide on what type of wood for the table.
But I still think I am going to just buy something at Home Depot for the first table for now.

I want everything white, gray and dark colored wood in my living room and dining room.
So far I have painted only the dining room gray and white.

My main furniture is dark brownish leather and I have some cheap wood bookshelf things that are dark brown.

I want a dark dining room table...that's all I know for now.

Hear, hear!!
You'd love my current desk... A few decades ago I built an entertainment center out of white and curly maple. The top piece weight 450 pounds. When I moved to TN, the top half got rendered into fire wood (it had served for more than 25 years and was ready to move on), but the top and the hand made ornate trim was saved. That is now my desk with two plywood boxes as the uprights.

I would like this piece as a table top.

But remember I want cheap and I want something I can make myself.
(For the first one..I have to say this because I already know I will want something better in the near future..by better I mean real wood! lol)

Here's a trick... Look at the wood, you're looking for character. What you like. May sound gross but wet it, and wipe the water around... That's what a finished product might look like.

Some of the best tables I've seen were made with barn wood. Reclaimed stuff. Find what is pleasing to your eye and go with it.

Ok, now you've entered a new dimension... Buying a slab big enough to make a kitchen table is not practical unless you live in CA.

This is what I am going for...the reclaimed older look but I like dark.
