YES! Order of operations is important. PEMDAS (Parenthesis, exponents, multiply, divide, add, subtract from left to right.

We all stink at math

I still think I'm right but it's been ages since I learned order of operations. Probably been since before Liz was even born.

You were right. I teach order of operations as part of my GED math class. You multiply first, getting 9, then do the addition and subtraction from left to right. You end up with 12.

On a quick break at work. But, I have to beat this information into my student's thick heads, so I understand why it can be confusing. I like riddles, so solving these is fun for me. .
