My 6yo blue Heeler names Trixie came to the house a few weeks ago with a large lump on her back, next to her stub of a tail. I thought it was just a hotspot that got irritated so I put hotspot medicine on it. Well I guess she got in a scrap with something and opened it up because now it’s bleeding and it looks maybe infected. She’s a strictly outdoor dog and she is also a working guard dog for the goats and poultry. I’ve been treating it for a couple of days with Iodine, Nealsporin and BlueKote . Sometimes she wines like it hurts and other time she doesn’t care. Vet isn’t an option.

Any ideas what this is and how I should treat it? Please help.

Though I do recommend a vet because it looks quite bad to the point it needs antibiotics, but there may be some things you can do.

Get some Epsom salt and disolve it in warm water. Put a towel in it then place it on the wound. Do this a couple times then let it air dry. You could also get sterile syringes without needles and just rinse the wound that way.

Put colloidal silver on it and nothing else.

Do not put her back outside until she is healed because dirt and everything else will just make it even worse.

I would put the colloidal silver on two to three times a day. The Epsom salt rinse I would do every morning.

If you can't get colloidal silver then I would use what you do have. I would use Blu Kote and not use the antibiotic ointment. Do the Epsom salt rinse then wait for it to air dry (in the house not outside). Then put on Blu Kote. Repeat each day.

What is colloidal silver? Also just regular epsom salt? I cannot bring her inside I’m “not allowed” to. Could I put like a “bandaid”or something on it to keep dirt out of it?

A bandaid will not stick on dog fur. She has no shelter that she lives in?

Didn't know there were different kinds of Epsom salt. Just regular will do.

She lives in the barn, back porch, under the house and she has a dog house that she(rarely) uses, and I could clear a stall for her.

Aaah! Those cause infection right? Or can lead to it is what I read. How do you get those out?
Edit: just read iodine can help get them out.... would this work??
Well you need to clean it and it will be only one big grub. They are white. Clean with peroxide flush out the hole. You might need to muzzle her or at least use something to muzzle her.
Tweezers to locate the grub
